What our home safety assessment includes

Our comprehensive assessment examines every major area of the home, ensuring your or your loved one’s safety and peace of mind. Each assessment provides tailored recommendations and connects families with helpful resources and support to implement safety improvements. The assessment addresses specific concerns related to fall prevention, electrical safety, fire hazards, and accessibility.

We evaluate the bathroom for slip prevention and ease of access, identifying improvements such as:

Bathroom Safety

  • Installing grab bars, transfer poles, or walk-in tubs to reduce fall risk

  • Using non-slip mats, tub mats, and rubber-backed bath mats near sinks and showers

  • Adding adhesive strips, decals, or slip-resistant strips in tubs or tile areas

  • Checking anti-scald devices and ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) to prevent burns and shocks

  • Ensuring non-slip shower seats are stable and appropriately sized

We review layout and lighting to prevent nighttime falls and make emergency responses easier

Bedroom Safety

  • Installing motion-sensor lights, nightlights, or remote-controlled lighting

  • Keeping a clear path to the bathroom and removing tripping hazards

  • Recommending bed rails for balance support or transfer assistance

  • Ensuring emergency numbers are visible and accessible from the bed

  • Checking temperature controls, smoke alarms, and charging stations for safety and convenience

We assess kitchen setups to reduce burn and fire risks while making cooking easier for seniors:

Kitchen Safety

  • Organizing heavy items and cleaners in low, easy-to-reach locations

  • Encouraging safe use of oven mitts, pot holders, and step stools

  • Ensuring hot water heaters and fire extinguishers are properly maintained

  • Recommending under-counter lighting, battery-operated pucks, or improved task lighting

  • Ensuring original containers for cleaning products and chemicals like bleach or paint thinners to avoid confusion or spills

We evaluate stairs for fall prevention and ease of use, identifying improvements such as:

stairs and steps safety

  • Installing grab bars or handrails on both sides of the stairs, extending fully top to bottom

  • Adding non-slip treads, strips, or adhesive grips to stair surfaces

  • Marking stair edges with high-contrast tape, paint, or glow strips for better visibility

  • Improving lighting with motion-sensor lights, step lights, or nightlights along the stairs

  • Keeping stairs clear of clutter, loose items, cords, or tripping hazards

We evaluate the entryway and the exterior for safe access into and out of the home, prioritizing fall prevention

Entryway & Exterior safety

• Encouraging grab bars, handrails, or support rails on the entryway and near the door

• Recommending non-slip treads, strips, or textured surfaces to steps and porch floors

• Installing ramps or bevelling thresholds to reduce or eliminate steps

• Improving lighting with motion-sensor lights, porch fixtures, or path lighting

• Keeping walkways and entry areas clear of clutter, debris, and tripping hazards

We evaluate the overall home for common fall risks, identifying improvements such as:

general fall prevention safety

  • Removing loose throw rugs or securing all carpets/rugs with non-slip backing or tape

  • Clearing clutter, cords, shoes, and obstacles from floors, hallways, and pathways

  • Installing grab bars or handrails in hallways, living areas, or near seating for support

  • Using proper, sturdy footwear or non-slip slippers indoors at all times
